Thanks Ted - If I have learned one thing, its that there is my truth, your truth and reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Each day I try to learn a bit more about honesty, humility and patience. I always get into trouble when I compare my life to the way I think it should be. Perhaps we do not - as you stated - have control over the very first thought...which can be compulsive, involuntary and often negative as Ekhart Tolle describes in the Power of Now...but we can control the second thought and beyond. Having a filter to learn when we are lying to ourselves about ourselves - for some - can be a full time job. I try to think about my blessings on a daily basis...so even when I roll out a parade of horribles, I have a tool to diffuse the false thoughts and feel grateful...Kind regards from Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
I like your quote from Norman Vincent Peale. I had been teaching for almost 20 years (15 at Belmont Hill, before I came to understand the power we all have to control how we think. Most of us spend too much of our lives believing that circumstances determine who we are and what we can do, which is certainly not true.
