I don't know....I am very happy for Eric's natural talents ;) but I really think if these self-help, positive reinforcement, affirmation and mind conditioning techniques worked so well, the world would be a much much happier and balanced place.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe that there is place for these tools, and I have personally tried great many. I do think, that generally happy, positive and easygoing person will see effects of this. But there are great too many deeply unhappy, negative, angry, bitter, and pessimistic individuals. And their general "glass half empty" outlook on life is so deeply rooted, that they would require a much deeper work to be done, than affirmations along.
Perhaps, if these techniques were taught to young kids starting at a very young age it could have a tremendous effect on their development.

Eric - With all due respect to the pundits of positivity...your success from a young age through College and the Pro's was largely due to what Spanish historians refer to as s mui saco del toro...loosely translated to mean "VERY LARGE BALLS" Your intensity and professionalism through the years was matched with a dignity and grace as a sportsman that earned the respect of countless peers and fans. I am glad that you gained some benefit from early exposure to these valuable mantras but I think would have kicked all our butts regardless. Peace, P.

PP,

Too funny that I just happen to check out your blog today because I didn't know you wrote one AND I listened to Dennis Wately's Psychology of Winning tapes back when I was 13&14 and it had a lot of the same principles that you talked about today. The introduction was done by Earl Nightengale and I think he was the producer of the tapes. I went on to win The National Hardcourts, the National Claycourts and I was a runner-up in the National Indoors. I was ranked #1 at the end of the year.

Loved what you wrote today!!!
